Way Out – Aga Rayburn Factory Series by Jenny Mason-Gunning
Way Out – Aga Rayburn Factory Series
is an A2 zinc etching by Jenny Mason-Gunning, created as part of her Aga Rayburn Factory Series — a body of work exploring the haunting interior architecture of the historic Aga Rayburn factory.
In this piece, the factory begins to open out in scale. The viewer is drawn along a receding industrial passage, where structure and shadow stretch into depth. The composition carries a powerful sense of distance, and with it, the quiet emotional pull of an opening beyond — a doorway or exit that breaks the darkness with light.
Working on zinc at this size gives the print a directness and physical presence. The etched surface holds both strength and subtle tonal variation, allowing the industrial forms to feel weighty yet atmospheric. The scale invites immersion, making the interior space feel almost architectural in itself.
Way Out reflects one of the central themes of the series: the tension between enclosure and escape, between heavy structure and the quiet suggestion of what lies beyond. It is both a study of place and a meditation on absence, stillness and memory within abandoned industry.
Each impression is hand printed using traditional intaglio methods, preserving the depth, clarity and surface character that zinc etching brings.
