Solar Plate Workshops with Jenny Mason-Gunning
I work with you at your pace, but the aim of my solar plate workshops is to take you through the entire process from start to finish — giving you the confidence to return to your own studio and work independently.
We begin with your image. I show you how to edit and prepare it in Photoshop, how to adjust tone and contrast for print, and what works best for solar plate. From there, we move step by step through exposing and developing the plate, hardening it correctly, and understanding why each stage matters.
You will learn how to ink the plate and print it properly, including working with different inks, papers, presses, pressure settings, and blankets. We explore how subtle adjustments affect the final result, so you understand not just what to do, but why.
If you’d like to go further, I can also guide you through calibrating your screen to your printer, and linking your printed results back into Photoshop to build tonal curves that give you consistent, predictable prints. Creating this full circle — screen to plate to print and back again — gives real confidence and control in your studio practice.
If calibration isn’t your focus, I can show you other reliable ways to achieve excellent results every time. The ultimate goal is simple: to be able to see your image on screen and understand how it will print.
That clarity transforms your studio practice.
You can have this as an online workshop using Zoom or in your studio or Jenny’s studio here in Ironbridge.
When you book and pay for this online, we will be in touch with you to book a date in the diary.
