Printing Runners (set of 2) 2mm to 25mm thick for All Presses
SKU: 8551
Price range: £13.00 through £70.00
Printing Runners for Relief and Intaglio Printing
Here are the runners we offer for purchase – they’re designed to work with any press, as long as your top roller can be raised high enough to fit the runners between the roller and the press bed.
👉 Most Gunning Etching Presses have an 8cm gap between the bed and the top roller, which is perfect for this.
One set of 4mm runners comes free with every new Gunning Etching Press.
Standard width: 50mm
(Need them narrower? Just let us know – we’re happy to cut them to your preferred width.)
Choosing the Right Runners
Always use runners that are slightly thicker than your plate or type to ensure smooth, even printing.
For thinner blocks like hessian-backed lino, Japanese vinyl, or woodblock, our 4mm runners are ideal.
When you’re mounting a plate to a board or creating a snug slot for multi-plate or reduction printing, 8mm runners tend to work best.
For letterpress printing, especially with deeper type, our 25mm runners work well with most setups.
If you’re unsure which size you need, feel free to give us a call – we’re always happy to help guide you to the right choice for your press and project.
How to Use Them
Set your roller pressure to rest directly on the runners so the rollers grip properly.
Use packing paper to bring your printing paper up to the roller, not by tightening the press.
We recommend using Bread and Butter 270gsm or Southbank Smooth within the runners on the press bed.
Do not use newsprint – it’s too thin and inconsistent for proper packing.
For reduction or multi-plate printing, we recommend using our registration pins and tabs system for perfect alignment every time – follow the link to see how to use them
Important Note for Non-Gunning Press Users
If you’re buying runners for a press that isn’t a Gunning Etching Press, please make sure there’s enough clearance between your rollers to fit the runners.
we can cut bespoke sizes – best to get in touch for a quote.
