Viv Spencers fascinating body of work, displayed in Ironbridge Fine Arts 2019 Winter Exhibition, includes a huge selection of Monoprints inspired by Viv’s love of the landscape of Cornwall and the flora & fauna both on the beach and found walking in country lanes. Viv Spencer cleverly uses colour to infuse emotion, texture, and depth into prints.

“I enjoy the processes of printmaking and how to combine them; I’m a keen photographer and like the cross-over between digital and analogue which I’m keen to explore further now that I’ve retired from teaching. The work that I’m showing with Ironbridge Gallery is all about the landscape of Penwith in the far south of Cornwall. It was a favourite spot of Peter Lanyon and the colours of the landscape and the idea of fields and earthworks are what I’ve tried to get into the prints.”

An insight into Viv Spencer’s life…

“Since retiring early from teaching in July 2018 I’ve been studying for an MA in Printmaking at PCA Plymouth which I’m enjoying very much. Before that I taught in a very wide variety of schools from 1984, across all sectors and ages, and I’ve taught Art, Art (Graphics), Art (Photography) and Media Studies. I was Head of Department (Media Studies) at Gordonstoun School from 2005-10 and a Visiting Art Specialist in Moray before that. My last post was teaching Art, Photography and Media Studies at Westonbirt School, Tetbury from 2013-2018 and from July 2017 I have had my own studio in Cornwall. I belong to Open Studios Cornwall.”
