Fishing boats gather before the storm

Dave Gunning worked on the Isle of Lewis and Harris thirty years ago. Drawings of the stone circles were purchased by the Queen’s bankers and Devizes Museum.

Callanish Stone circles made a great impression on the artist and resulted in a return visit this year. He worked at the stone circles again and felt the

energy and power once more from the stones.  “Callanish main stone circle is a wonder, the power of the site spiritually is second to non!”

A lifetime obsession with the sea has resulted in this series of paintings. “The peace and spectacular clear colour at all times of the day and night on Lewis blows your mind. Working up in the Hebredese with family this time made all very special and I thank our daughter Jenny for taking us to the stone circles at 4am in the morning. Rarely has a place affected me so much, the peace and timeless quality of the Southern Lakes, no TV, no telephone…. time stopped for two weeks!”
