Originally from Kent, Ive lived in various parts of the UK and I am now thoroughly settled in beautiful rural North Shropshire. I am inspired by the natural world and my immediate environment, and I am fascinated by details.
From a design craft background my formal training specialised in glass, and I have a particular love of flamework – melting rods of glass in a flame to be able to form them into small scale sculptures. I slightly obsessively learn other skills and became captivated by printmaking, first of all lino printing with all the sensory joy of carving but then by etching and the possibilities of tiny details within a small scale. I discovered tetrapak printing and love the idea of using “rubbish” to produce something precious. I usually only get a handful of prints from each plate I make and I enjoy embellishing each one differently with further printing or by hand, frequently adding touches of gold or jewel tones.
My Insect prints started from an exploration of the beauty and fragility of a local endangered dragonfly and has expanded into drawing a variety of insects from all over the world, some inspired by those we have seen on our travels, and developing those drawings into prints.
