‘Carnac Temple’ – Hand Embellished Etching by Dave Gunning (Copy)
SKU: IFA-CAR-2739
This new body of work was inspired by a visit to Egypt last Autumn.
‘Winning an Art Prize at school when I was twelve inspired me even then to one day visit and work among the ancient sites of Egypt. The prize was a book about Ancient Egypt, it had many pictures and much information for a young boy to wonder over. Nearly six decades later I ventured on one of the most magical trips of a lifetime, The Nile and its treasures did not disappoint. We go back again next year to look and explore more of this wonderous ancient civilization’s legacy’. For the first time the artist has combined painting with etching, gold leaf and other
techniques to produce this body of work. A large steel etched piece reflects how much impact the great Pyramid had on the artist.’ All the work starts ‘on site’ where drawings are made and then finished back in the studio. I do not take photographs or work from them and never have done. Drawings and mixed media works seen here have taken several months to complete.
The artist has exhibited widely since the mid 1970’s. He has his work in many leading private and public collections. The most prestigious being National Museum of Wales, The Palace of Westminster, London and The Queens Collection at Windsor Castle. Four months before Her Majesty the Queen sadly passed, she accepted another set of Dave’s Megalithic etchings into the Royal collection. These works have been available to see at Windsor over the past few months and will be shown at the gallery next year and be part of a touring show travelling to several museums in Great Britain. Venues and dates to be announced soon!
