Ross Minton, also known as The Wonky Doodler, is a local artist whose work is inspired by the untamed beauty of nature, particularly the wildflower meadows that once flourished across the UK. His art reflects a deep longing for the return of the UK’s grass verges to their natural, unkempt state, full of vibrant colors and rich biodiversity.
Ross explains, “Our obsession with a neat and tidy world means we are literally cutting, poisoning, and sweeping away our native biodiversity. Since the 1960s, we’ve lost 97% of our wildflower meadows.” Through his art, Ross seeks to raise awareness about the environmental impact of this loss and to encourage a reconnection with the natural world.
Born with a rare muscle disability that limits his mobility, Ross has always found nature to be an essential part of his mental health and well-being. Despite the physical challenges he faces, Ross strives to spend as much time outdoors as possible, often working on his allotment and vlogging to encourage other disabled individuals to embrace the outdoors and grow their own food. “I’ve always found nature to be a great healer,” Ross shares. “As I tell everyone, I’ve never met a tree I didn’t like!”
In this exhibition, Ross brings his unique perspective to the gallery, showcasing vibrant, colorful works that highlight the beauty of wildflowers, grass verges, and natural landscapes. His pieces capture the essence of the wild, showcasing both the resilience and fragility of nature. His work is a poignant reminder of the need to preserve these vital spaces and restore biodiversity.
The exhibition invites you to engage with Ross’s message and experience his art, which is both visually stunning and deeply meaningful. Through his work, Ross not only celebrates the natural world but also encourages us to think about our role in protecting it for future generations.
Join us this winter at Ironbridge Fine Arts to experience the evocative work of Ross Minton and explore the beauty and importance of nature in all its wild, untamed glory.
