1 Day Intro into Etching Workshop at Ironbridge Studios
Information:
Our Etching Workshop at Ironbridge Studios is a great workshop to come on, during the workshop you will learn about metal, line, tone, aquatint, toxic etchants. As well as printing processes including traditional and contemporary methods. You will be working with a full-time specialist printmaker, in a beautifully designed studio, next to the river seven. Etching is an intaglio printmaking process in which lines or areas are incised using acid into a metal plate in order to hold the ink. In etching, a plate can be made of zinc, copper, steel, or aluminium. A result will include a Beautifully made etched plate along with a couple of test prints for you to take away.
What we provide:We provide all the materials and the Gunning Etching Press.
What you need to provide:Lunch and any snacks, if the workshop is at our Ironbridge studios then we will provide teas and coffees. If it is at your studio, school or University then it would be wonderful if you could provide teas and coffees and let us know if we need to bring lunch with us. Aprons will need to be provided for each student.

Equipment and Etching Printing In the studio there are usually around 4 Gunning Etching Presses,a largeGunning Hotplate, extractor fan units, one of our largeaquatint boxesand a dark room with a UV Light box. We have a brilliant wash down sink and glass work surfaces so you can ink up anywhere. We have a plasma cutter and metal polishers as well as brilliant printers and Mac computers with the use of photoshop and other software.
The studio space has been designed to house 4 printmakers giving them more than enough space to make and print plates the size of 20” x 30”. The hot plate,acid and water baths have been made to take plates of this size and the largest printing press in the studio is ourNo 4 Etching printing presswith a bed size of 35” x 60” making it easy to print any size.
