Drawing Workshops

Large and expressive drawings are produced by students by enthusiastically showing them how to use certain techniques and methods.   If you have a theme for a project or a large area to dedicate to a special display then call to discuss your ideas and the possibilties available. This is an excellent activity for stimulating creativity and participation and we have had excellent feedback showing interest in artistic expression and drawing capabilites which can support efforts in other curriculum subjects.

These workshops can be tailored for students of all ages, showing them how to look, measure and record what they see .   Whether a single visit or a series of visits are required in either drawing or printmaking, costs can be quoted quickly.

Contact Jenny on 01952-434033  to discuss your project or ideas for your students

Jenny will give a talk in the morning, and then show and explain how to prepare the paper and board. all the preperation will be done inside, the rest of day is spent outside drawing (weather permitting)

At the end of the day all the drawings should be almost, if not finished. Jenny will give an apprasal of the drawings produced and a gift to the student who has worked hardest.

or if you would like drawing lessons, a scedule of progress will be written and on every visit you will learn and progress in drawing styles and mediums.

Printmaking Workshops

We do provide printmaking workshops for schools, however due to Health and Safety legislation, we only offer  lino, collograph, dry point and mono printing.

we offer private tuition printmaking in our studio at the gallery in Ironbridge. wither 1day, 2 day or 3 day course are available as well as evening classes

as an example of a workshop in schools or colleges

The day involves making plates and printing from the plates.  The whole group usually works together in the morning (depending on the size of group) and then in the afternoon  4 students at a time are taken through printing process.

Each student will leave having accomplished  around 3 prints each.

If you have alot of students we suggest making plates on day 1 and then printing on day 2.  Also if you want the whole school to be involved then maybe a 3 or even 4 day workshop would be more suitable.

If you need costs for any of the above, please call or e-mail.

 Types of Printmaking

Etching- Using nitric acid to etch an image into steel using acid resist grounds and varnishes to create the plate and then printing from the plate, this is intaglio and not suitable for schools without proper air extractor units. you can do all this in our studio/workshop in Ironbridge if you would like to do private tuitian. Other printmaking techniques to do include, carberundum, marberling, white ground, sugar lift.

Colograph -Using any materials to create the relief surface that is inked up and printed, this is relief

Dry-point -Scratching into the surface of the plate using dry point needles and then printing from the plate, this is intaglio

Woodblock – Cutting an image out of wood with tools and then printing from the block, this is relief

Mono-Printing – Inking a slab with even ink and laying a piece of paper over the top and drawing on the top of the paper, this transfers the ink from the slab onto the paper

Lino-  Cutting out an image using different tools and knives and then printing the surface of the plate, this is relief
